California Proposition 4 would repeal the voter-approved ban on public campaign financing from Proposition 73 in 1988, authorizing state and local governments to establish matching funds or grant programs for candidates subject to spending limits and eligibility rules. Trader consensus favoring rejection at 57 percent reflects sustained opposition from taxpayer advocacy groups that frame the measure as diverting public resources to political campaigns during a period of fiscal scrutiny. Reform organizations including the League of Women Voters and Common Cause launched their campaign earlier in 2026, yet the absence of recent public polling showing clear majority support, combined with the historical precedent of the existing prohibition, has shaped market pricing ahead of the November 3, 2026 vote.
