Republican Matt Van Epps holds an 87% implied probability in the TN-07 general election as the freshman incumbent in a district with an R+11 Cook Partisan Voting Index and a history of strong Republican performance, including a 22-point Trump margin in the prior cycle. Tennessee’s May 2026 redistricting produced only marginal changes to the partisan composition despite shifting roughly 40% of voters into the district, preserving its Republican tilt. The August 6 Democratic primary featured Darden Copeland and other challengers but no indication of a competitive general election path. Cook Political Report rates the seat Likely Republican, reflecting limited crossover potential and the absence of recent polling or events that have altered the baseline assessment.
