Bo French secured the Republican nomination by narrowly defeating incumbent Jim Wright in the May 2026 primary runoff, establishing him as the clear favorite in a state where Republicans have dominated statewide races for decades. His campaign has emphasized energy sector priorities and cultural issues, while Democratic nominee Jon Rosenthal, a Houston state representative and former oil field engineer, highlights technical expertise on grid reliability and regulation. Recent polling shows French ahead but with substantial undecided voters, and a late-September social media controversy drew criticism from some fellow Republicans. Traders price French at 63 percent amid these dynamics ahead of the November 3 general election, which also includes a Libertarian candidate.
