Democratic nominee Amish Shah holds a substantial edge over Republican Jay Feely in the open Arizona 1st District race, reflecting the seat’s swing character and trader assessment of the post-primary matchup. Incumbent Republican David Schweikert’s decision to run for governor instead of reelection created an open seat in a suburban Phoenix-Scottsdale district that Trump carried by three points in 2024. Shah, the 2024 Democratic nominee who narrowly lost to Schweikert, defeated the DCCC-backed candidate in the July primary and brings residual name recognition. Feely, a former NFL kicker endorsed by President Trump, prevailed in a competitive Republican primary but enters the general as a political newcomer. With the November 3 general election two months away, the race remains among the most closely watched House contests.
