Current forecasts from sources including MetService-aligned models and international agencies point to a daily maximum of 16–17°C in Wellington on September 4, driven by strong northwesterly advection of milder maritime air ahead of a front. Variable cloud cover and scattered showers—most likely in the morning—introduce uncertainty in surface heating and boundary-layer mixing, with clearing skies potentially allowing brief solar insolation to push readings toward 17–18°C while persistent low-level moisture could cap them near 16°C. Historical September maxima average near 14–15°C, but the current synoptic setup favors modestly above-normal warmth; traders appear to weight the upside potential from wind-driven mixing and model spread more heavily than downside risks from rain-cooled air.
