David Eby holds the strongest position in the market for British Columbia's next premier, reflecting his role as incumbent NDP leader who called a snap provincial election for October 24 amid U.S. trade tensions and Conservative Party instability. Recent developments include the September 22 writ drop, Conservative leadership turmoil with Kerry-Lynne Findlay's resignation and Lorne Doerkson's selection as interim leader, plus several MLAs rejoining or exiting the caucus. Polling shows the NDP holding a narrow popular vote edge over the Conservatives, consistent with historical patterns where governing parties benefit from early votes during opposition disarray. Trader consensus assigns lower probabilities to other figures such as John Rustad or additional candidates, underscoring the impact of the compressed campaign timeline and Eby's established profile heading into the vote.
