The 2026 Quebec general election, called for October 5, features a tight contest in the Jean-Lesage riding between incumbent Sol Zanetti of Québec solidaire and Parti québécois candidate Claude Villeneuve, recently announced after serving as the PQ's communications director and in prior municipal roles. Projections from models such as 338Canada treat the seat as a toss-up between QS and PQ, reflecting vote splits among CAQ, Liberal, and Conservative candidates that limit any single party's margin. Villeneuve's entry has bolstered PQ positioning in a riding where QS previously outperformed provincial trends, while broader campaign dynamics around sovereignty, immigration, and party leadership transitions keep the outcome closely contested until nomination deadlines and final polling clarify voter preferences.
