**The Laviolette–Saint-Maurice race remains tightly contested ahead of the October 5, 2026 Quebec general election, with trader prices reflecting a virtual dead heat between the leading Parti Québécois and Coalition Avenir Québec candidates.** Incumbent CAQ MNA Marie-Louise Tardif is not seeking re-election in the redrawn riding that includes Shawinigan and La Tuque. CAQ nominee Guy Veillette, a longtime local journalist, faces PQ candidate Élodie Murphy-Gauthier, a family physician, in a contest where recent riding-level projections show CAQ and PQ separated by just a couple of points amid broader provincial shifts away from the governing party. The Liberal and Conservative candidates trail but could influence the outcome through vote splitting in a riding that swung heavily to the CAQ in 2022. Key variables include turnout patterns, health-care and regional economic messaging, and any late-campaign provincial momentum shifts before nominations close in mid-September.
