Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble models indicate a daily minimum near 58°F for Chicago on September 23 under persistent northeasterly flow and widespread cloud cover that limits nocturnal radiative cooling. This keeps overnight temperatures close to the late-September climatological average of 55–56°F while suppressing the clear-sky drops that could push readings into the mid-40s. The near-even market odds between sub-48°F and 66°F+ outcomes reflect traders pricing in remaining forecast uncertainty, including potential model shifts in steering patterns or Lake Michigan moderation that could either enhance mixing or allow greater cooling by resolution time. Upcoming 00Z and 12Z runs will likely narrow the range.
