Recent July ISM Manufacturing PMI data at 55.6—the strongest reading since May 2022 and well above the 54.0 consensus—has anchored trader expectations for the August release around the mid-50s. Broad-based gains in new orders (56.7), production (58.5), and employment (returning to expansion at 52.8 for the first time in 33 months) reflect sustained demand, AI infrastructure spending, and inventory restocking, tempered by front-loading ahead of tariffs and Middle East supply risks. Elevated prices paid (71.1) and lengthening supplier deliveries continue to signal input-cost pressures that could cap further acceleration. With outcomes tightly bunched from 54.0–56.9, market-implied odds reflect uncertainty over whether momentum persists into August or moderates toward the long-term average near 52–53, ahead of the September 1 release.
