Incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, dominates trader consensus at 96% implied probability for winning the Assam Legislative Assembly following the April 9, 2026 polling across 126 seats, with results slated for May 4. Pre-election opinion polls from C-Voters and others projected a strong NDA majority, bolstered by delimitation increasing seats in BJP strongholds, sustained incumbency since 2016, development initiatives, and fragmented opposition including Congress (INC) at 3%. Record 76% voter turnout reflected high stakes, but consistent polling trends cement BJP's frontrunner status. Realistic challenges include vote-counting discrepancies, recounts in close seats, or alliance shifts, though historical patterns favor the incumbent in Assam's first-past-the-post system.
