**Persistent cloud cover, northeast winds, and elevated humidity are moderating overnight cooling across the Chicago area, keeping the minimum temperature on September 17 centered in the mid-to-upper 60s.** Official guidance from sources including WeatherBug and regional forecasts shows a mostly cloudy to overcast night with lows in the mid-60s (around 67–69°F in several runs), consistent with the tightly clustered market probabilities around 64–69°F. Northeast flow off Lake Michigan and a lingering chance of showers or thunderstorms limit radiational cooling that would otherwise allow clearer skies and sharper temperature drops. This setup aligns with the broader late-summer pattern of above-average readings but a gradual seasonal decline, with recent days featuring highs in the low-to-mid 70s and overnight lows holding in the upper 60s. Model consensus supports this range rather than a sharper cool-down or warmer rebound, though minor shifts in cloud timing or wind direction could nudge the exact minimum within the 64–69°F band. Historical averages for September 17 (near 58°F) highlight how the current synoptic conditions are producing warmer-than-normal overnight readings. Traders appear to be pricing in the latest short-range guidance, with the close distribution across 64–69°F reflecting remaining uncertainty in the precise hourly minimum.
