Washington voters will decide on Initiative 645, which seeks to repeal the 9.9% tax on household income above $1 million enacted in March 2026 and signed by Governor Bob Ferguson, on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The measure qualified after opponents gathered over 500,000 signatures. Democratic leaders, organized labor, and aligned groups have mobilized a "No on I-645" campaign emphasizing revenue for K-12 education, higher education, and working-family tax relief, while highlighting potential service cuts if repealed. Earlier polling showed majority support for the targeted tax, and ballot language disputes plus legal challenges over broader effects on income-based levies have reinforced trader views that repeal faces significant headwinds in a state electorate historically resistant to broad income-tax measures.
