Recent coalition realignment in May 2026, triggered by Progressives' withdrawal over defense disputes and drone incursions near the Russian border, installed United List (AS) leader Andris Kulbergs as caretaker prime minister in a four-party center-right grouping. This has positioned AS to leverage incumbency advantages in the proportional-representation Saeima contest scheduled for 3 October. Latvia First (LPV) has consolidated as the primary challenger in recent polling, drawing support amid voter fragmentation across Sovereign Power (SV), the Progressives, and National Alliance (NA). Traders appear to price AS's organizational edge and governing record against LPV's opposition momentum, while smaller parties face structural barriers to plurality in Latvia's multi-member constituencies.
