Bulgaria faces its eighth snap parliamentary election since 2021 on April 19, triggered by the December 2025 resignation of the Zhelyazkov government amid protests over budget delays and corruption allegations, marking ongoing political deadlock under proportional representation with a 4% national threshold for the 240-seat National Assembly. Recent polls, including Market Links' April 7-14 survey, show former President Rumen Radev's Progressive Bulgaria (PB) leading at around 30% (projected 109 seats), followed by GERB-SDS (21%, 57 seats), PP-DB (37 seats), DPS-MRF (21 seats), and Revival (V-ESN, 16 seats), positioning these as likely entrants while smaller parties like BSP hover near the threshold. Authorities are intensifying anti-vote-buying measures and countering reported Russian disinformation with EU support via the EEAS. Coalition formation remains uncertain, as Radev has ruled out pacts with GERB-SDS, MRF, or PP-DB, risking another minority government or fresh polls.
