**Forecasts from the National Weather Service and other models point to a mild overnight low in the low-to-mid 70s for Chicago on August 30, 2026, driven by a warm, humid air mass advected by south-southwest winds ahead of building ridging.** Cloud cover and scattered showers or thunderstorms—tied to a warm front—limit nighttime radiative cooling, keeping temperatures from dropping sharply despite the late-summer timing. This setup aligns closely with the market’s leading buckets (72-73°F at 36.5% and 70-71°F at 35.0%), reflecting trader consensus around NWS guidance of lows near 71–74°F. Key scientific differentiators include wind direction (southwesterly flow favors warmer advection over lake-modified air), dew point levels sustaining humidity and reducing cooling efficiency, and the balance between cloud cover (which traps heat) versus any clearing that could allow greater temperature drops. The 82°F+ outcome at 28.5% likely captures scenarios with stronger warm advection or model spread, while lower buckets (e.g., 66-67°F) reflect potential for more clearing or lake breeze influence. Historical August lows average ~64°F, but the current pattern deviates due to the amplified ridge and moisture. Updated model runs overnight or early Sunday will be the next key catalyst for shifts in implied probabilities.

The resolution source for this market will be information from NOAA, specifically the lowest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on this day, available here: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=kord
This market will resolve off of the Hourly Data provided using the "Show Hourly Data" button.
If NOAA data for the observation date is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table will be used as the resolution source.
To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the "Switch to US Units w/ kts" button until the relevant table displays °F.
This market can not resolve until the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source.
The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.
Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.
