Recent forecast guidance from multiple models points to a maximum temperature of 17–18°C in Wellington on September 4, driven by northwesterly flow ahead of a front that will deliver showers and gusty conditions. Official outlooks from MetService and international agencies converge on daytime highs near 16–17°C under partly cloudy skies, with limited model spread supporting the market’s heavy weighting toward these outcomes. Strong El Niño conditions currently enhancing westerly airflow have contributed to above-average spring temperatures across much of New Zealand, raising the baseline for the date relative to historical norms of roughly 13–14°C. Traders are monitoring any late model adjustments ahead of resolution, as even modest shifts in wind direction or cloud cover could alter the peak by 1–2°C.
