Provisional results from Benin's April 12 presidential election show Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni securing a landslide victory with over 94% of votes, as declared by the National Autonomous Electoral Commission, driving trader consensus to imply near-certainty on his presidency. The ruling coalition's parliamentary dominance excluded major opposition parties, leaving Paul Hounkpè as the sole challenger, who promptly conceded defeat, further solidifying Wadagni's position as President Patrice Talon's designated successor amid sustained economic growth under his prior reforms. While official certification and inauguration remain pending, scenarios like successful legal challenges or irregularities disputes could theoretically shift outcomes, though none have emerged amid broad acceptance.
