Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's detention in a New York federal jail since his January 2026 capture by U.S. forces, facing narco-terrorism and cocaine trafficking charges with penalties up to life imprisonment, anchors trader sentiment toward the 60+ years outcome at 34.5%. Pre-trial delays, including a recent postponement of hearings to June 30, and his not-guilty plea claiming abduction sustain viability for no prison time (22.5%) or shorter sentences via plea deals. Differentiators include conviction likelihood amid witness testimonies like ex-general Hugo Carvajal's potential cooperation, sentencing guidelines emphasizing leadership role, and diplomatic pressures; a guilty verdict could consolidate long-term odds, while acquittal or immunity arguments might shift toward lighter outcomes.
