This market will resolve based on the countries that officially recognize Palestine as a state by December 31, 2026, 11:59pm ET. An announcement of intentions will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes." Only a government's formal recognition of the State of Palestine will count toward a “Yes” resolution for this market. The primary resolution source for this market will be official government information. However, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used. The September 2025 UN General Assembly session drove a coordinated wave of new recognitions by France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal, and several smaller European states, lifting the total to 157 of 193 UN members. These moves reflected sustained humanitarian pressures from the Gaza conflict, domestic political dynamics in the recognizing countries, and joint diplomatic efforts with Arab states to advance a two-state framework that includes Palestinian Authority reforms, 2026 elections excluding Hamas, and demilitarization. As of mid-2026, Belgium has initiated its recognition process under similar conditions, while major holdouts such as Germany, Italy, and the United States continue to tie any shift to negotiated outcomes. Upcoming catalysts before 2027 include Palestinian election timelines, further multilateral conferences, and any escalation or de-escalation in bilateral relations that could alter remaining diplomatic positions.
