The California one-time wealth tax on billionaires remains stalled in signature gathering, with proponents reporting only 25% of the required 874,641 valid signatures as of late February—far short of the June 25, 2026, verification deadline for the November ballot. Recent polls reflect slim voter support around 52%, hampered by partisan divides, Governor Newsom's public opposition, and emerging rifts among Democrats and labor unions. Opposition groups, backed by $10 million in billionaire donations versus $3.5 million for supporters, advance counter-initiatives while citing Hoover Institution analysis projecting a $25 billion net fiscal loss from capital flight already underway, driving trader consensus toward non-passage.

The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of the State of California, however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
