This market will resolve to "Yes" if Tristan Buckmaster files a lawsuit against OpenAI, or any of its subsidiaries, executives, or employees, by 11:59 PM ET of the date specified in the title. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A lawsuit in which Tristan Buckmaster is a named plaintiff, alone or jointly with others, will qualify. An announcement of intent to sue or a legal threat will not qualify; a lawsuit must actually be filed in court. The primary resolution sources for this market will be official information from the relevant court. However, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Tristan Buckmaster’s public allegations against OpenAI, detailed in early September 2026, center on the company’s handling of his AI-assisted work on the Navier-Stokes equations using Codex sessions shared with co-author Levent Alpöge of rival Anthropic. Traders see elevated lawsuit odds driven by claims that OpenAI pressured Buckmaster to exclude the Anthropic researcher from authorship, threatened career repercussions, and may have incorporated private drafts into its internal model training data. OpenAI’s rapid deployment of substantial compute on a similar technical route, followed by CEO Sam Altman’s defense of the team, has intensified scrutiny over research credit, data provenance, and competitive dynamics between AI labs. No filing has occurred yet, but the heated exchange and unresolved authorship dispute create near-term catalysts if talks collapse.
