Republicans enter the 2026 midterms with a narrow 218-212 House majority amid four vacancies, limiting their margin for error to just a handful of net losses before ceding control. Historical patterns show the president's party typically shedding seats in midterm cycles, reinforced by a Democratic edge on the generic ballot and Cook Political Report ratings that flag roughly two dozen competitive districts. Mid-cycle redistricting provides some Republican offsets in targeted states, yet forecasts from consensus models project outcomes clustered near 208 seats. Trader pricing across adjacent bins from below 190 through 214 reflects uncertainty over turnout, candidate recruitment, and late-cycle economic or legislative developments that could shift the final seat total by 5–10 in either direction.
