Provisional results from Benin's National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) show Romuald Wadagni securing over 94% of votes in the April 12 presidential election, driving trader consensus to 98.4% implied probability for him as next president following incumbent Patrice Talon's decision to step down after a decade in power. As Talon's finance minister and ruling coalition candidate, Wadagni benefited from parliamentary control established in January elections and his opponent's early concession by Paul Hounkpè, signaling broad acceptance amid a field limited to two contenders. Official certification remains pending, but overturning the landslide would require substantiated fraud claims or court intervention—scenarios unlikely given the margin and Hounkpè's acknowledgment. Wadagni now eyes northern security threats and poverty reduction.
