This market will resolve to "Yes" if the European Union's long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Major rating agencies have affirmed the European Union's supranational credit standing at AAA or AA+ with stable outlooks through mid-2026, reflecting strong joint liability from high-rated member states and predictable budget contributions despite EU debt rising to €739 billion by end-2025. This institutional backing and absence of negative watches underpin the 91% market-implied probability against a downgrade before 2027. Traders note that agencies typically provide 12–24 months of signaling before action, with no such indicators evident amid contained euro-area growth risks. A sharp deterioration in key sovereigns' fiscal positions or cohesion could still trigger review, though near-term catalysts like ECB policy or 2027 budget talks appear unlikely to shift ratings quickly.
