Polymarket traders price South Africa 2026 annual CPI inflation in a tight race, with 4.1-4.4% leading at 25.5% implied probability closely followed by >5.0% at 22.3%, reflecting uncertainty from a recent oil price surge past $100 per barrel amid Middle East tensions that weakened the rand and triggered April fuel price hikes. This offsets February's benign 3.0% print—the lowest since mid-2025—and aligns with SARB's March MPC upward revision to a 3.7% full-year average forecast, featuring a Q2 peak near 4.0% from 18% fuel inflation. Key differentiators include oil persistence, rand stability, and electricity tariffs, with March CPI data due April 22 as the next catalyst ahead of May MPC.
