Maryland's 6th congressional district leans heavily Democratic due to its suburban Washington, D.C. population centers in Montgomery and Frederick counties alongside more rural western areas, giving the party nominee a structural advantage in the November 2026 general election. Incumbent Democrat April McClain Delaney holds the seat after winning in 2024 and leads early primary polling against challenger David Trone by double-digit margins ahead of the June 23 Democratic primary. Nonpartisan race ratings classify the district as solid or safe Democratic, reflecting consistent partisan voting patterns and limited Republican competitiveness. The Republican primary field remains fragmented with limited visibility. Late developments such as a major primary upset or significant national political shifts could still influence the general election outcome.
