Virginia’s attempt at mid-decade congressional redistricting was halted by court rulings that invalidated the enabling constitutional amendment. Voters narrowly approved the measure in April 2026, but the Virginia Supreme Court ruled in May that procedural violations in the legislature’s handling of the ballot question rendered the referendum void. The U.S. Supreme Court subsequently declined to intervene, leaving the 2021 court-drawn map in place for the November midterms. With primaries completed and candidate filing deadlines passed under the existing districts, traders assign overwhelming probability against any new map taking effect. Late developments such as successful emergency litigation or extraordinary legislative action remain theoretically possible yet face steep procedural and timing barriers.
