This market will resolve to "Yes" if China commences a military offensive intended to establish control over any portion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Territory under the administration of the Republic of China, including any inhabited islands, will qualify; however, uninhabited islands will not qualify. The resolution source for this market will be official confirmation by China, Taiwan, the United Nations, or any permanent member of the UN Security Council; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Sustained gray-zone operations, including expanded China Coast Guard patrols east of Taiwan and maritime research activity since mid-2026, reflect Beijing’s emphasis on normalizing presence and eroding sovereignty without crossing into kinetic conflict. Taiwanese defense assessments note that the People’s Liberation Army continues to prioritize joint blockade and quarantine rehearsals over large-scale amphibious landings, citing persistent gaps in sealift, logistics sustainment, and combat experience. Reduced aerial incursions into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone compared with prior years, alongside ongoing U.S.-China diplomatic engagement ahead of a planned Trump-Xi summit, reinforce trader consensus that an invasion remains unlikely by the 2027 deadline. Taiwan’s accelerated procurement of drones, long-range missiles, and coastal defenses further raises the anticipated costs of any escalation.
