Kansas's 2nd congressional district carries a Cook Partisan Voter Index of R+10, reflecting consistent Republican advantages in presidential and statewide voting. Incumbent Republican Derek Schmidt secured his party's nomination in the August 2026 primary with roughly 80 percent of the vote against a minor challenger. Democrat Don Coover advanced unopposed in his primary and will face Schmidt in the November general election. Forecasters rate the seat Solid Republican or Likely Republican, citing the district's eastern Kansas geography, rural and suburban voter base, and historical margins. These structural factors underpin trader consensus that the Republican nominee holds a strong position ahead of the general election.
