Incumbent Republican Lance Gooden secured his party's nomination without opposition and faces Democrat Chelsey Hockett in the November 3 general election for Texas's 5th congressional district. The seat carries an R+10 Partisan Voter Index and delivered roughly 60 percent support for Republican presidential and Senate candidates in 2024, consistent with its Dallas-area exurban and rural makeup. Nonpartisan analysts rate the race Solid or Safe Republican, reflecting the district's structural baseline and the absence of competitive polling or disruptive campaign developments since primaries concluded in May. Trader consensus at 92 percent for Republicans aligns with this established lean. A substantial national Democratic midterm wave, unusually elevated turnout in Democratic-leaning pockets, or an unforeseen late-cycle event involving the incumbent could narrow margins, though no such catalysts have materialized to date.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
