Following the March 22, 2026, parliamentary election, Robert Golob's Freedom Movement secured 29 seats in the 90-seat National Assembly, narrowly ahead of Janez Janša's SDS with 28, yielding a hung parliament requiring 46 for a majority. Coalition talks have stalled amid rejections from the centre-right bloc of Jernej Vrtovec's NSi alliance (9 seats), Anže Logar's Democrats (6 seats), and Resni.ca (5 seats), which opposes both major leaders. The April 10 election of Resni.ca's Zoran Stevanović as assembly speaker, backed by SDS, NSi, and Resni.ca votes, signals deepening challenges for Golob's proposed national unity government, elevating trader consensus on Janša (73.5%) as the leading next prime minister candidate due to potential centre-right negotiations, with Vrtovec (13.3%) and Logar (6.2%) as compromise options.
