The open seat in Vanier-Les Rivières, following CAQ incumbent Mario Asselin’s May 2026 departure for personal reasons, has produced a tight multi-party contest ahead of the October 5 Quebec election. Local candidates from the CAQ (Françoise Faverjon-Fortin), PQ (Stéphanie Martin), PLQ (Charles Hudon), and PCQ (Patrick Paquet) are each drawing measurable support in late-August projections, with PCQ, CAQ, and PQ clustered within a few points and the Liberals trailing. The absence of an incumbent advantage, combined with provincial shifts under new CAQ leader Christine Fréchette and competitive party organizations on the ground, sustains the narrow implied probabilities reflected in current market pricing. Further candidate visibility, targeted local campaigning, or late provincial polling movements could widen separations before nomination closes in mid-September.
