Incumbent Democrat Scott Peters advanced from California's June 2 top-two primary with 48 percent of the vote to face Republican Steve Cohen in the November 3 general election for the state's 50th congressional district. Nonpartisan analysts at the Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, and Sabato's Crystal Ball rate the contest Solid or Safe Democratic, consistent with the district's D+10 partisan voter index and Peters' established record since 2013. The recent redistricting under Proposition 50 preserved the seat's Democratic tilt without introducing meaningful competitiveness, and Peters maintains a substantial fundraising edge over his opponent. Trader consensus at 93.5 percent for the Democratic nominee reflects these structural advantages, though late developments such as a major scandal, health event, or sharp national partisan swing could still alter the outcome before Election Day.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
