Texas voters will decide the next Railroad Commissioner on November 3, 2026, in a contest between Republican nominee Bo French and Democrat Jon Rosenthal. French prevailed in a May GOP runoff by a narrow 50.5% to 49.5% margin after emphasizing cultural issues and America First priorities, defeating the establishment-backed incumbent. Rosenthal, a Houston-area state representative and former oil-field engineer, highlights technical expertise on energy regulation, grid reliability, and industry oversight. The race remains closely matched because Texas’s Republican tilt is offset by French’s history of divisive statements on immigration, Islam, and social topics, which have drawn criticism from some party figures including strategist Karl Rove. Fundraising favors French, yet the emphasis on candidate contrast rather than partisan baseline keeps trader probabilities near even.
