The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the most recent magnitude 7.0+ earthquake—a 7.4 off Ternate, Indonesia—on April 1, 2026, followed closely by a 7.3 near Vanuatu on March 30; no additional events have occurred in the subsequent two weeks amid typical global seismic activity. Globally, M7+ quakes average about 15 per year, or roughly 1.25 monthly, following Gutenberg-Richter scaling on tectonic plate boundaries, with no short-term predictability due to chaotic stress accumulation on faults. Traders should monitor USGS real-time feeds and weekly significant earthquake lists for updates, as new detections could resolve markets promptly, though current patterns show no elevated risk indicators like foreshock swarms.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until the end of the month following resolution time or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
After a qualifying earthquake is registered, this market will remain open for 24 hours to account for any revisions to its recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
