The most recent magnitude 7.0 or greater earthquake, a 7.4 event 126 km west-northwest of Ternate, Indonesia on April 1, struck along a subduction zone interface at 35 km depth, per USGS data, with no subsequent M7+ events in the following 15 days amid normal global seismic activity. This follows a March 30 M7.3 near Vanuatu and March 24 M7.5 off Tonga, reflecting typical clustering in the Pacific Ring of Fire but no anomalous uptick—USGS records average about 16 such quakes annually worldwide. Precise timing and locations remain unpredictable due to complex tectonic stress accumulation; trader consensus draws from historical rates implying roughly one every 2-3 weeks. Monitor USGS real-time catalog for updates, including aftershock forecasts for recent sequences, with no short-term elevated risks identified.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until the end of the month following resolution time or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
After a qualifying earthquake is registered, this market will remain open for 24 hours to account for any revisions to its recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
