Incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur, who has held Ohio’s 9th district since 1983, advanced unopposed through the May 2026 primary and enters the November general as the clear frontrunner against Republican nominee Derek Merrin in a rematch. The narrow 2024 contest, decided by roughly 2,400 votes, prompted mid-decade redistricting that shifted the seat’s Cook PVI to R+5, yet Kaptur’s established local profile and fundraising continue to anchor Democratic advantages. Race ratings from outlets remain split between toss-up and lean Democratic, while Polymarket traders assign the Democratic Party a 72% implied probability, reflecting incumbency strength and limited recent shifts in the Toledo-based district ahead of the November 3 vote.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
