Redistricting after the 2020 census transformed Utah’s 1st congressional district into a strongly Democratic seat anchored in Salt Lake County, where Kamala Harris carried the area by 24 points in 2024. With no incumbent running and a D+12 partisan voting index, traders assign the Democratic nominee Ben McAdams a 93.5% implied probability of victory. McAdams, a former U.S. representative, secured his party’s nomination in the June 2026 primary by a wide margin over challengers. The Republican nominee Riley Owen faces structural headwinds in this blue-leaning district. Late developments such as national economic shifts, candidate health events, or unusually high turnout among Republican-leaning voters in suburban pockets could narrow the margin but remain unlikely to overcome the district’s partisan composition by Election Day.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
