Incumbent Republican Lance Gooden secured the GOP nomination uncontested in the March 3, 2026, primary for Texas's 5th Congressional District, a solidly Republican seat with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+13, bolstering trader consensus at 89.5% for a Republican victory in the November general election. Gooden, who won reelection by 28 points in 2024 against Democrat Ruth Torres, maintains a commanding fundraising lead with over $1.3 million cash on hand as of late March. Democrats Chelsey Hockett and Torres advanced to a May 26 primary runoff after a low-turnout contest, but the district's historical 60%+ Republican margins and lack of competitive polling underscore significant barriers to an upset absent a major national wave or scandal.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
